As I hear my team discuss our searches on our weekly calls, lately there has been an emphasis placed on the word “timing”. In the recruiting world, there are a lot of factors that come into play that revolve around timing.
As a recruiter, timing first comes into play with how fast we can get started on a search.
My coworker mentioned how the first 48 hours of a new search are crucial. This is because the search is fresh in our minds, and we are motivated to gain traction. From there, timing is crucial in responding to candidates and hiring managers. When trying to coordinate schedules, timing very literally becomes a factor with time zones.
Timing is also a major component for our hiring managers.
Great candidates are not on the job market for long before being approached with their next opportunity. So, hiring managers–when you see a good candidate do NOT sit on them! In a few days, a candidate's situation may have changed.
On the other hand, if the candidates do not look like a good fit for your company, feedback is critical. The faster we can receive constructive feedback, the sooner we can find you the right candidate.
In life, we’ve all been in situations where we feel we are in a lull, waiting on someone else to respond. And let's be honest, not every message is urgent and it's unfair to expect people to drop what they are doing to “quickly” respond to your message. But, the truth is, timing plays a major role in all of our lives.
One thing I’d like for everyone to consider is how YOUR urgency and timing can affect the outcome of a situation.
In a world that is go-go-go, timing is everything.
