Every day we reach out to individuals asking who they know that might be interested in a particular role. Occasionally, this request falls flat. Dead on arrival, or DOA, as one might say. When a response does come back, it is usually in the form of, “Hey, thanks but I’m not interested.”
Again, we’re not asking if you are interested, but rather who you know that might be interested. If you, the recipient of the message are interested, please do let us know, however, we are really asking who you recommend. We trust your expertise and we trust your advice. We’ve identified you specifically for your experience, industry knowledge, and your network. We know you’ve likely worked with the right person for the job or that you have a great idea of whom we should speak with about qualified candidates.
Our aim is to treat all relationships as permanent. We mean no harm or disrespect by reaching out to you and asking about others. This is us, tapping into our valued network which we’ve been fortunate enough to build over the years. In no way do we want to tarnish your trust in us to do our jobs. And in no way do we wish to devalue our relationship with you.
To those who feel these messages are unnecessary solicitations, we ask that you read our outreach in detail. If you are gainfully employed and we know that you are content in your current workplace, it is not our goal to poach or to ruffle feathers. We’d simply like your recommendation. Who do you know or who would you recommend we contact for this position? Who should we chat with regarding a potential fit?
Our world is very active and fast-paced. Our clients expect and deserve quality talent and so we lean on what we know, our connections. Therefore we ask, “Who do you know?”
