Golf is a game of misses. Whoever can miss the best usually does the best.
A lot of players also have a certain shot-shape or ball-flight that they typically play. This becomes their “go-to” shot. That being said, these same golfers usually have a “miss” to one side or the other. The better they can manage this miss, or limit this miss, the better their results. No golf shots are perfect.
Golf, to me, is a metaphor for life and more specifically, for recruiting.
Certain candidates swing for their next great opportunity. Some companies miss out on their most qualified candidate. Either way, this recruiting thing is another game of misses. It’s rare for us to get a hole in one, but it has happened. Matching the perfect candidate with the perfect opportunity would be the equivalent.
However, our goal is not perfection, our goal is to limit our misses.
Think of our baseline as par and we want birdies and eagles. We want our misses to work out for both sides and for parties to come together only when it makes the most sense. If our misses still leave us with opportunity then we have won!
In recruiting, our relationships generally only improve as time goes on. We aim to get closer and closer to the target and to know our clients better. Yes, sometimes we miss, but we should never be far off. When our misses become better than everyone else’s, we connect the best talent with the best opportunity.
At the moment, Hunter Crown is in full-swing and we are pin-seeking!
