Did You Make It Past January 17th?

You might be thinking, January 17th? What’s so special about January 17th?

Here’s what.

Each year by January 17th most New Year’s resolutions have failed. That’s right, most of the goals that people write down and give their “best” effort to stick to are done and gone less than two and a half weeks into the New Year.

Did you make it past January 17th?

If you didn’t, don’t sweat it. I didn’t even start until well after January 17th. It’s not because I didn’t have goals written down or resolutions that I wanted to stick to. I just wanted to make sure I could hold myself accountable to these goals and that they were the ones I was absolutely going to stick to. I also felt like I needed to hone my goals in order to make them realistic. I kept asking myself, are these my goals or ones that everyone should have (aka general goals)?

For those of you that didn’t make it past that magical date above, ask yourself what happened? Are you back at it now? Have you given up? Is missing a few days or even a few weeks all that detrimental? When you take the whole year into account, is it really that big of a deal? My vote is that no, it’s not that big of a deal. In recruiting, much like in life, you don’t put all your eggs in one basket and then call it quits when things don’t go exactly as desired. We’d be out of business if this was our M.O.

The main point you should take from this article is: Don’t panic and don’t let January 17th deter you from your goals. Keep it up.
