Be Willing to Lose

Many things make us more aware. In the past year this is probably more true for most people than at any other time in their lives. Has it made us better? For some, absolutely. For others, Iā€™m not so sure. My big takeaway from the current environment is to stay as present as possible. I must be willing to lose everything with each action I take because nothing is given, not even time.

In recruiting and hiring, it is hard to put such desperation into perspective. For candidates, I have seen a large shift. Candidates seem to be aware of the present. They seem to know what they have and they seem to be willing to lose future opportunities if they are remotely happy in the present. I like this stance. For hiring companies this can be tough. They must court appropriately and impressively in order to bring talent onto their teams.

Companies that have found a way to flourish or to maintain deserve respect and admiration. It takes an amazing amount of grit and focus to lead during the darkest of times. Many teams have grown closer and more dynamic through the plethora of current challenges. While being aware of the present, clients and candidates alike have found a way. I commend you.

How vital is your next move? What is the worst outcome?

If you have a hard time answering these questions then broaden the discussion. Include those around you. Without adequate perspective we are running blind. We must have clarity and meaning behind our actions.

Always being willing to lose before each next step.

Be conscious of the consequences and pivot carefully. Be gracious and patient and always treat those involved in a way that reflects how you wish to be remembered.
