The theme of the year for us has been to “run in place.” What I mean by that is the following: we are constantly attempting to do best, by our clients and candidates, but oftentimes the market is pushing back. Last year, 60%, and this year 80%, of our final round candidates received a counter offer or multiple offers. We feel as though we are opening great doors, but wow do they get slammed shut quick by candidates on the move. Countless times this year we have found who we believe is the right person (or persons) for the job. This person has received an offer, but for one reason or another, the deal doesn’t get done.
In many ways this HIGHLY candidate-driven market is tougher on the recruiting industry than it was during a recession.
Have we seen this before? Sure. Just not in this high of numbers. There’s nothing quite like feeling you did the best job you could but being without the end goal. Is this a complaint or an excuse? Absolutely not. This is a message to tell everyone how motivated we are as a firm to get the job done.
