Recently, I came across a resume of an anonymous candidate who had a blurb stating that they were not interested in speaking to or working with a recruiter. This, of course, made me curious about what kind of experience this person had with recruiters to prompt them to write such a blurb. Then it occurred to me that many candidates have never worked with a third party recruiter or if they have, maybe they only have one data point from which to draw conclusions. This may also be true for new hiring managers or owners of a small business.
As a recruiter, I couldn't help but think about the various benefits of partnering with a recruiter.
Let’s look at them together, both for candidates and hiring managers.
Candidates: 5 Benefits of Working With a Recruiter
Direct Connection: Recruiters are able to present your resume directly in front of a hiring manager. You don't have to wonder if your resume was lost in the midst of many other applicants.
Compensation Clarity: Recruiters know the salary for the position! Let’s be honest...you want to know compensation details BEFORE you apply. When applying on your own, you may not discover these crucial details until you are already invested in the position.
Personal Advocate: Recruiters are able to advocate for the candidate. Behind the scenes, we are compiling information that showcases your experience in the best possible way. We want to be sure that you are properly represented to the hiring managers.
Passive Seekers: Recruiters can be a major benefit to the passive job seekers. If you are not actively looking but are open to new opportunities, recruiters can keep you in mind for future positions that may be worth consideration.
Pro-Tips: Recruiters can provide guidance and recommendations. Whether it’s tweaking your resume to make it look more appealing, providing interview tips, or giving you feedback, recruiters are there to support you.
Hiring Managers: 5 Benefits of Working With a Recruiter
Hire Quicker: There is a reason why recruiters exist and why it’s a full-time job! It can be difficult for a company to allocate a significant amount of time searching for the right candidate. Recruiters conduct an initial screening with candidates before presenting them to you, thus making the process more efficient.
Client Serving: Third party recruiters are typically not paid unless we find you the right candidate. This means that the recruiter’s goal is to find you the most qualified candidates who are genuinely interested in the position and your company.
Quality Candidates: Recruiters have specific applications, tools and techniques to find the most qualified candidates for your open positions. They are also in touch with qualified passive candidates, who may not be applying right now but are open to new opportunities.
Knowledge of Market/Industry: Recruiters gain insight into the market and industry from everyday conversations with clients and candidates. We can candidly share this information with hiring managers to ensure success in our search for the right candidate.
Assistance Through the Process: We contribute to the challenging conversations. Whether it's informing a candidate of rejection, acquiring more info (salary expectations, references, testing, etc.), or simply helping to coordinate an interview, we are able to assist in these processes.
