World Water Day was yesterday and what an incredible outpouring of thoughts, actions, and messages from so many of my colleagues, clients, and contacts! There was content that made you think, laugh, and even cry. In many ways, the breadth of content shared mirrored the necessary and multifaceted relationship we all have with water.
Here were a few contributions that I wanted to share...
Perhaps you saw the LinkedIn post by Amane Advisors referencing the concept of One Water:
“On this World Water Day, we celebrate the concept of One Water. By recognizing and holistically managing the entire life cycle of this precious resource, we can create a path towards sustainability and a healthier, stronger world.”
Maybe you chuckled at Jim Lauria’s funny water quotes shared on LinkedIn.
One a more serious note, perhaps you saw the article written by Melissa Ho, Senior Vice President, Fresh Water and Food with the World Wildlife Fund, about the future of water scarcity.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, today is the day after World Water Day. In recognition of the value of water, I thought it would be appropriate to also call out that, for some, every day is Water Day.
Consider those who live in remote locations without modern infrastructure, their Water Day might include one or more family members (mostly women and children) walking miles to fetch water for the day. For others, it might be working in the field to make sure critical infrastructure is functioning properly. For others, it might be writing policy and advising governments on how to simultaneously deliver both water as a human right but also finding a way to price and pay for it. The reality is that every day is Water Day for millions of people around the world.
Keep this in your mind and your heart every day as you lift a cup to your lips to take a drink. The story of water is both simple and complex. Water is life but it is also a story.
Happy day after World Water Day 2021!
