As a recruiter, we are constantly reaching out to folks, many who we discover are not active in the job market. I promise, we are not trying to waste your time, and we appreciate the constructive feedback you provide.
But, even if you are not looking for a new career right now, there are a few benefits to connecting with a recruiter.
Making a connection for the future
While you may not be looking for a new position now, this connection may be beneficial down the road. Recruiters will remember top talent in the market. If there is a specific position, salary, or location that you are targeting, feel free to share that with the recruiter.
Understanding your market value
Your skill set may be worth much more to another company. Or you may find reassurance knowing your company is valuing your skill set. But it would only be possible to know this by speaking with another party to get an understanding of the current market.
Networking
When your company is looking to hire, you have a recruiter in your network, hopefully, this is someone who already knows a bit about what you do. Also, you may view a position that is not right for you but may be worth passing on to someone in your network.
We understand that many people are happy in their current positions or it is not the right time to make a move for a variety of reasons, but when a recruiter reaches out, consider how making the connection now could be valuable in the future.
